The two page resume rule is now the standard across federal hiring. Keep it tight. Keep it readable. Miss the limit and your application stops before a human sees it.
Follow these rules:
- YOU ARE INELIGIBLE if your resume is over two pages.
- Resume Builder does not block overlength resumes. YOU MUST PREVIEW the length.
- Make it easy to read. Use at least half inch margins and 10 point font.
- Keep only what proves you are qualified. Move the rest to a cover letter or another document.
- FOLLOW ALL OTHER REQUIREMENTS in the job announcement, including work history, education, and certifications.
How to fit in two pages
Lead with the jobs that match the announcement. Show the duties and results that map to the required qualifications. Use plain words. Cut jargon. List hours per week and dates in month and year. Include education and licenses only if the job asks for them or if they prove you are qualified.
Before you apply, open the preview. Confirm the final layout is two pages or less. If it is not, trim again. The goal is simple. Two pages. Clear. Complete. Compliant.
